lyrics

Cheerilee, back at home, a box of old textbooks
Ambition sent the filly out in the world to quest, good
Lothario departed, head shook, call it quits because
She’d fall out with em, back to small-town rhythms
And for sure they welcome back their resident autodidact
They talk plans the mare will be pleasant but not reply back
Got a secret project that she might just have the skill to fuel
See that empty playground lot?, she says, Why not build a school?

Townsfolk walking out for opportunity where they can finally find another good break or a chance
Taking all the colts and fillies who out chumming in the street so they can maybe come a little bit awake and advance
Taking a chance - used to be crazy and dance til she found her soul
Working at her hardest to corral the foals - why the fuck is there no school inside a town this old

Tools proud to hold, she works, now behold, if you can teach a mare to fish then she can fill up an aquarium
Stars are in the sky, she’s staying in the area and wondering if maybe she can make a planetarium
Now ponies help but it’s not complete, mare barely funded - she walks the streets
Life drawn to teach, find profit weak, Mr. Rich helping out because his daughter needs it

She’s reading up about the EEA guidelines
A letter to the Princess could be repaid five times
Because the advent is turning to her advantage
She feels the gravity go out and she reads her grant’s granted
Studying the many gaps in history and lost lore
Worries with a broadsword, carving out a chalkboard
None tower in the field of learning with the fun scoured
Young flowers only need a couple years of sunshowers

And oh it feels good now, only fields stood out once
She see Ponyville Schoolhouse comes through now, she jumps
To see enrollments, her humble beginnings are now
Subtle misgivings abound but they’ll be quitting their doubts quite soon
Up when their fillies are crowned becoming willfully proud
And something silly’s allowed to come to drill the profound
It’s the pupils in her eyes that the future’ll exult
Afternoon grading but by night she’s tutoring adults

Give, get, sometime red marks and the loud groans
Other days it’s smiling gold stars and the proud pones
Cheerful Cheer cheerin em and humble in her nature
Roughing with the Diamond and she rumbles with Crusaders
And if she’s met with raised hooves and furrowed brow or
A less quick messed quiz, then make good and burrow down
Prone to receive merits from troves of relieved parents
Her ponies perceive facts in rows and they weave serifs

It’s a little slice of Canterlot Academy
School types have to try to battle off the apathy
Of students, computing in an analog capacity
Pictures on a wall become a catalogue of masterpieces
With baking soda volcanos
They maybe overthought making those a lot - they know
But hey though, the base was blowing off, cop halos
When appraised on the spot, now they got to mop on raw say-so

More a home than a storehouse of knowledge
And also newsroom, newschoolers sort out the columns
And she’s at home, eating nice on a stipend some
A party girl could be surprised how a life ends up
She’s the lilac original, sciences and arts
Are at her mercy, tallying, still divining by the charts
To be guiding them in triumphs and depart
Til she’s all alone, hilltop, silence and the stars, Miss Cheerilee
